The First Lady” is an American anthology series told through the lives of the three most influential first ladies in American history – Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Michelle Obama. Through the outstanding acting of Michelle Pfeiffer, Viola Davis, and Gillian Anderson, the series provides a detailed insight into their lives, achievements, difficulties, and challenges they faced. Although they provide full support in the political careers of their husbands, they also try to maintain their own integrity, passionately advocating for social issues of importance, and changing the role and image of the first lady of the United States. The series is exciting, dramatic, tense, and fun, and if you watched it – we recommend 4 more political dramas that you will undoubtedly enjoy!

Mrs. America

Mrs. America” is based in part on the failed 1970 political movement to pass the Equal Rights Amendment. This historical drama series focuses on the reaction of the movement provoked by conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly (Cate Blanchett). The story is told through the experiences of different women involved in the movement – real and fictional. Schlafly offers very conservative views that are in direct contrast to prominent second-wave feminists. Schlafly openly fought against feminism, gay rights, and abortion, successfully campaigning against the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Famous feminists Gloria Steinem (Rose Byrne), Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman), Shirley Chisholm (Uzo Aduba), and others also appear in the series.

The Crown

The Crown” has been talked about a lot in recent years – and with good reason. From season to season, it chronologically depicts the period since Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne of the United Kingdom, providing a fictitious insight (at least according to the royal family) into the lives of monumental historical figures in Britain and the political turmoil that has affected world history. The first season deals with the events of the beginning of Elizabeth’s (Claire Foy) reign, the second covers the period from 1956 to 1964 and the birth of the Queen’s youngest sons Andrew and Edward, and the third – the Queen’s role is played by Olivia Colman for the period from 1964 to 1977. It shows the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, while the fifth season premiere is scheduled for November 2022, and will show the end of their marriage and Diana’s death.

House of Cards

House of Cards” is an American political drama series, based on the British BBC series from the 1990s and Michael Dobbs’ 1989 novel of the same name. Contrary to the series The First Lady, this is a completely fictional depiction. During all six seasons, the series was nominated for numerous awards, and Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright also won a Golden Globe.

Homeland

This is a spy series that gained worldwide popularity already during the first season of broadcasting. Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is a CIA agent who has bipolar disorder. Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) is a Marine sniper captured by Al Qaeda. When he is finally released, Carrie is convinced that Nicholas is working for the enemy and that he poses a threat to US security. As a result, her search for the truth becomes an obsession… We won’t give you any further information, but we will note that “Homeland” has also received numerous awards, especially praising Claire Danes’ performance.
