Each shoe will become water-resistant and will not leak by using beeswax, but if you don’t have one, a plain candle will also do the job. The procedure is very simple. Rub the shoes with a candle so that a white layer remains on them. To ensure that the wax settles properly, you’ll want to start with a spotless surface. A quick wipe-down will help remove dust and light debris. For older pairs that have seen a lot of action, it may be necessary to send them through the washer and dryer before you start waxing.

  • Waxing the shoes without cleaning them first will trap dirt that happens to be clinging to them. And, since they’ll then be waterproof, cleaning them after the fact can be tricky.
  • Make sure the shoes are completely dry before you proceed. If you’re anticipating bad weather, it may be a good idea to wash old shoes a few days before you plan on wearing them.

Then melt it with a hairdryer turned on to the highest temperature. Finally, wait a few moments and the shoes will be ready for walking in the rain or snow.

The wax will also protect leather shoes, suede shoes, and canvas sneakers from water. By the way, there are also impregnation sprays in stores that help make shoes waterproof.
