In June, Cortney Love accused Olivia Rodrigo of plagiarism, pointing out the similarities between the cover photo for The Hole’s 1994 album ‘Live Through This’ and the photos used for the promotion of Olivia Rodrigo’s concert film ‘Sour Prom’.
The young artist promptly responded to the accusations:
“I’m really honored that Courtney Love even knows who I am. I think we were both inspired by the movie “Carrie” in this case, but, aside from all that, I try not to focus on such stories”, Olivia told the media.
Namely, in June, the wife of the late singer Kurt Cobain sparked the feud by posting the two photos side by side on social media. The similarity was striking: the smeared makeup on the girls, flowers in their hands, and tiaras on their heads.
“Find two differences,” Courtney wrote in the description on social media, to which Olivia replied that she loved her, but Love’s ironic comment followed: “Olivia – you’re welcome. My favorite florist is in Notting Hill, London! Dm me for deets! I look forward to reading your note”.
After Rodrigo’s fans attacked Love for not supporting a young colleague, reminding her that many grunge bands were copying each other, Courtney replied: “Stealing an original idea and not asking permission is rude. There’s no way to be elegant about it. I’m not angry. It happens all the time to me, in fact, I’m usually flattered and I don’t say anything…really I’m very gracious or say nothing. But this was bad form. That’s not bullying or bomb throwing. This person’s music has nothing to do with my life. Possibly never will. It was rude and I gave every right to stick up for my work.”
