Cardiac surgeon Mehmet Oz (61) is known for his TV show ‘The Dr. Oz Show ‘which he has been running for years. Now he decided to develop his career in another direction. Oz will fight for the Republican seat of Pennsylvania in the November 8, 2022 election.
Elections will determine control of the Senate and the fate of political plans of Democratic President Joe Biden (79).
Biden narrowly won on the Pennsylvanian election in 2020, but Republicans made success in the state legislature. Many observers expect next year’s race will be uncertain because of the retirement of Republican Senator Pat Toomey, 60. Toomey was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Donald Trump (75) in January.
Oz became famous when he shocked the audience and showed them disintegrated lungs and liver. That was his way to tell viewers that they should take care of themselves.
His public image was damaged in 2014 when he told agents, who were examining advertisements for diet products, that some of the products promoted in his show did not have “scientific confirmation”.
In a statement on Tuesday, Oz wrote that he was running as a “conservative Republican” and of course he is a top surgeon and health care representative. He entered the race a few days after another Republican candidate, military veteran Sean Parnell(40), received Trump support for his campaign.
Parnell gave up on the elections after a verdict that brought to light the charges of domestic abuse of his ex-wife, which Parnell denied.
The Senate is divided 50/50 between Democrats and Republicans, and Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris (57) gives a final vote.
Democrats need to select a candidate for Pennsylvania’s Senate representative run.
