We bring you the basic principles of this diet that you should follow. Dukan’s diet is based on consuming foods that contain protein and those that are low in carbohydrates and fats. The point is that thanks to protein, you will not feel the hunger typical of other diets, and a small number of carbohydrates will free you from excess calories.

Rapid weight loss is thus the result of fat reduction, not muscle fat. At the same time, the diet affects the rest of the body, so the body recovers, the condition of your skin and hair improves, as well as the work of internal organs.


The Dukan diet consists of 4 phases : two for losing weight and two for avoiding weight gain again. In the period between the two phases, weight loss should reach the desired weight.

The first phase, an attack, lasts a maximum of seven days and begins by eating unlimited amounts of low-fat protein along with 1.5 tablespoons of oatmeal. As each phase of the Dukan diet has its own pattern, so is a list of foods that can be consumed. In the first phase, which is based on protein-rich foods and minimal calories, you can eat lean beef, veal, pork and chicken. Fish, eggs and low-fat dairy products are also allowed. As for liquids, a minimum intake of 1.5 liters of water per day is mandatory.

The next phase, the cruise lasts 1-12 months and during it, you should alternately eat low-fat protein one day, and the next day low-fat protein with starch-free vegetables with the addition of 2 tablespoons of oatmeal per day. In the second phase, which is based on alternating food intake, vegetables such as spinach, kale, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are added. Peppers, asparagus, artichokes, eggplant, cucumbers, celery, tomatoes and mushrooms are also on the list of permitted foods, as are beans, pumpkin, beets, carrots, onions and leeks.

In the third phase of consolidation, the duration of which depends on the other phases, you eat an unlimited amount of low-fat proteins and vegetables, low in carbohydrates and fats, and during one day a week, you eat only low-fat protein, plus 2.5 tablespoons of oatmeal per day. The third phase combines the foods from the first two phases with the addition of a small amount of fruit and bread, as well as cheese. The special feature of this phase is the celebratory meals, which you can treat yourself to twice a week. It includes one appetizer, one main course, one dessert and a glass of wine. There is also a protein day, when you eat only protein, as in the first phase of an attack.

The last phase, maintenance, by which, after losing weight, the new weight should be maintained, the rules from the third phase are mostly continued. Also, while your weight is stable, you don’t have to strictly follow them. It is recommended to use the consolidation phase for meal planning.
